Win XP Pro install problem

Just got a WinXp Pro from newegg and want to install in a new PC I'm building. I put the disk in and right before it was to do it I get a screen message that "no disk drive found or it is not turned on". What did I do wrong and how do I go about correcting this so I can get this OS on my new PC.

The BIOS is set to boot off the CD and it previously had Linux SuSE 9.0 so I know it will accept OS install.

I have no idea what exactly this means for certain, but I assume before the install starts? If so, you need to pay attention to the Windows install routine. At a point near the beginning in the white bar at the bottom there will be a message prompting you to press F6 if you need to install a SCSI or other controller (something to that effect, it's been a while since I last installed fresh). You need to press F6 and have the driver floppy that came with your PCI controller. Windows needs the drivers to access the 3rd party/PCI controller.

I just went through 5 hrs of this, Download your motherbeds drivers. if that is the one that has the driver on it. Put it on a boot disk, amd let it install the drivers you select. Leave your floppy in, and windows will keep going.Get the ide-sata drivers, and make sure your bios is set to ide, and not raid.Fixed moine.
 
Simple soultion may be to boot off floppy drive. (Although, I didn't read the whole thread in it's entirerty.)
 
I'll simplify things because some of the replies here are contridicting and/or confusing.

You are recieving that error message because the Windows install cannot find a hard drive to install on to (as you probably gathered). The reason for this is because your hard drive is connected to a PCI controller that the windows installer does not have drivers for and therefore cannot recognize or see the hard disk attached to it.

There are two easy solutions that will get you around this problem.

1.) If you have a floppy disk drive and the drivers for your PCI controller card plus another machine you can use to put them onto a floppy disk than put the windows xp drivers (extracted) on a floppy disk and press F6 during the start of the install as was suggested by amused and eyore.

2.) Disconnect one of your CD/DVD drives that (I'm assuming) are connected directly to the IDE channels on your motherboard and put the hard drive in its place (read hard drive connected directly to motherboard) and install windows that way. Once windows is installed than install the drivers for your PCI controller card and shut the machine down. You can now safely move the hard drive to the PCI controller and windows will be able to boot off it, after you've verified that you can boot the machine with the hard disk connected to your PCI controller you can safely add in your other CD/DVD drive.

Thanks for everyones help on this subject, it was the PCI like everyone said. I removed it from the PCI adapter and WinXp loaded with not problems at all. Gotta love AnadTech forums.
