I'm going to update to windows xp pro in a little bit and I was wondering What is the best sp and patches should I install? I don't want all of that secruity bs. Thanks

Umm... XP SP1 and IE6 SP1 for starters... than any other criticals in Windows Update.

Why wouldn't you ?

Tret, to be 100% honest, just go to WU and D/L everything, for me it's worked out just fine 🙂

If it's bs why are you updating your computer at all? It's unnecessary to except for security reasons and the occasional bug

Also if i just upgrade from win2k will it delete all my drivers?
Honestly, if you can / know how, do a fresh load instead of an upgrade from a previous OS version. Those can cause incompatibility problems... so I've heard.

Thanks i'm going to stfu now.

Best to do a fresh install then upgrade. Besides winXP was very good getting all the right drivers installed for me and I have every component imaginable.

MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RPC FIX!!!

I did an re-install of XP and started downloading drivers/etc before getting this fix and I got nailed. It took 5 reboots due to RPC before I could get the fix installed. I got the rest of the system updated, but slowly over the next 2 weeks things just stopped working. First it was a game, then another, then all of directX, then sound worked only half the time, then I got random reboots...

I got sick of it all, so I reformatted one more time and made sure to install the RPC fix before I even plugged in my network card. Ever since I've had a stable system.
