Win Xp Pro 256MB or 512Mb Ram

I'm running it with 128 and it's fine, but only with all the bells and whistles turned off. I'd say 256 is a safe bet!

512 is definitely noticeable IMO

but the way RAM prices are right now i would get 256 now and wait for them to go back down before i pick up another 256

128 is unbearable tho

IMO = in my opinion

And, if more than one person uses the computer, the user-switching feature in XP is another good reason to go for 512MB if you can afford it.

I've got 1024MB and all I do is surf the web and play Hampster Dance. Do you think it's overkill?

😉

i say 256mb for a non gaming rig...it'll run smooth for normal apps and the net...
while 512 is almost good for anything ...🙂

I started with 256 and XP Pro and went to 512. I can run with all the bells and whistles on with no problems. Go with the 512. You won't be unhappy.
😉

Like others have said....512MB. 256MB is fine for the average user but .....almost everyone on this forum isn't just an "average" user....

I have 3 machines with XP right now 1 with 256, 2 with 512. Unless you run Adobe stuff, 256 will usually be more than enough. 128 will dog you in some games.

Absolutely, you should take out 512MB and send it to me, hehehe...
XP totally sucks. I have it installed on my 9.1GB 10K RPM U2W SCSI and it's slower than my Win2K installed on 9.1GB 7200RPM U2W SCSI (I swapped the HDD). The machine is 1.2G TBird, 768M ram.
It's look too girly and so damn slow compare to WIN2K and 98SE.
I'd stay with WIN2K.

I've had XP on my old computer which had 128 mb, which is bearable. 256 is fine, but logically, 512 would be better.
