OK I've been having this problem for a while... I can't scandisk my computer!

I tried doing it and it says it needs access so I should schedule one for reboot... so I do that.

When that cute little XP boot screen scandisk comes up it says "This volume is NTFS" then "Cannot open direct access t o the volume" and goes into Windows.

I've tried using Norton Disk Doctor but that has the same problem... so how do I friggin scan my hard drive?

This is a clean XP install and I've trie dgoing through drive properties/tools etc.

Check to see what's in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute.

It should be something like "autocheck autochk *"

And PLEASE: if you're putting error messages in quotes, MAKE SURE IT'S THE VERBATIM ERROR MESSAGE!

Searching for information on inaccurate error messages is useless.

Omega, your answer to the question was even less useful than mine.

When you're done playing my-ego-is-bigger-than-yours, perhaps you could do something useful, like post the Q number of the article that has the resolution.
