Win XP networking doesn't tell me how many bytes I've uploaded/downloaded

I had to reinstall windows on my computer and ever since I did, when you double click on the network icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen, it displays the number of packets that have been sent/recieved. I distinctly remember that it used to say the number of bytes instead of packets. How do I change it so it displays bytes?

i did some research via google and was able to find that the display of either "packets" or "bytes" is dependent on what NIC driver you have installed for your NIC. when you reinstalled you must be using a different driver perhaps that would change it from "packets" to "bytes" or vice versa. if its that big of a deal, try a different driver and see if that changes anything.
