anyway how can i tell ms that i need a new number or something?
i had valid oem now i either need oem cd or new install of xp have pro but nother story haha

any way i cant get into windows need help!

You're lucky it even booted up. Microsoft's probably going to require you to buy a new license, since it's OEM; their policy appears to be that the motherboard is the "tiebreaker" item in whether it's the same PC or not.

Never had a problem with this, but then again when I call up Micrsoft I don't sound like a babbling Linux anarchist either. Hell, they gave me 50 free Terminal Server CALs one time because their licensing manager on my box was having problems.

While the OEM does tie to the logical machine, upgrading a motherboard or replacing it doesn't legally force you to buy a new copy of windows. That's absurd, and just plain propoganda.

As for MS licensing in general, I've been in law firms where 75% of the software was either pirated or copied, yet not a single person on staff made less than $100K a year. Boy, that Microsoft sure is greedy for trying to inhibit piracy. While I use some killer Open Source apps and utils on my servers, Microsoft's licensing is sure a lot cheaper and less draconain than anything on my IBM servers.

MS ties their activation to the motherboard, hence you replace it and you need to re-activate. they have to tie it to SOMETHING else it would be pointless. they could just make you call everytime you reinstall, but i think most people prefer it this way to the alternative. i've had to call many times and have never waited over a few minutes and they always took care of my problem quickly.

edit: hooked on phonics btw, it works.
