hmmm, right-click whatever you want to download and choose 'Save Target As...', and then type the filename you want to give it

 
sounds like you might have some kind of download manager "helping" you out. I'd remove any of those programs you've recently installed and maybe run Ad-Aware. The standard version 6 is Free! -Tal
