Win XP - I am the only user and in the administrator group, but ..

Well I got my problem in the header lines, but what happens, is when I try to run the software, it says I need to login as administrator, but I can't. And I go into user management, and try to add administrator, but it says the account already exists. How do I login as administrator ?

When you first loaded up WinXP, you had to give the Administrator account a password. Use "Administrator" as the username and whatever password you gave that account. That should work.

Barring that, logout and log back in as Administrator, install your program (make sure it's in the All Users Program Group) and your golden. 🙂

OK, how do I specifiy username ? The XP screen only allows me to click on "Mark" (the only user on the box)

While holding down the Shift key, right-click the program and choose Run As... and you can then use alternate credentials, whether it's Administrator or another account. I use this at work quite a bit since our employees are Restricted Users (equates to Limited users on a stand-alone WinXP system). I also use it at home since I run a Restricted User account for daily-driver purposes (more secure that way). Quite handy once you get the hang of it 🙂

To add to what I posted... if your Mark account is Admin-class, then really you should not need to change to a different Admin account 😕 but whatever works, I guess. If you do want to log on as Administrator, then upon reaching the Welcome screen, try pressing CTRL ALT DEL twice in a row and you should get the classic username/password box. Or restart in Safe Mode and the Welcome screen should show Administrator's account too.

Thanks mech, but the run as still fails (I have a blank administrator password, that might be it) and the ctrl-atl-del on the login window twice doesn;t seem to work. Any more Ideas ? I don;t even know how to change the administrator password

OK, I found a menu option about the way you login, and now I am logged in as administrator, and I still get the same stupid error. I am going to uninstall and re-install as administrator and see what happens.

Stupit Abit....stupid windows....

It worked. Installed as Administrator WITH a password, then switch users. Still very stupid IMO. Anyways, thanks mech, you put me on the trail.

And now that it works, 65c full load !!!!!! I may have to go down a bit, I am at 1.6volt,2300 mhz.
