Maybe this is a silly, dumb, question, but I see no reason why Win XP Home could not be used in some business/office settings. I'm still using Win 98SE, and I wanted to discuss this before becoming a Win XP user.

You can use it as a server if you feel like it.
If it suits your purposes and you have no use of the features of Pro, save a bunch of money a go with Home.

Go with XP home edition if you don't need web & remote services. Or, just stay with 98se if your current software is compatible & you are okay with the occasion reboot. Security is an issue on the Win98 box, but should be fine you are carefull.

Many of Home's features can be mimicked by third part software, but if it needs to be in a huge domain, you'd probably need NetWare.

Home just isn't as flexible as pro, that's all.

Or you could upgrade just to keep up to date. As of last year sometime, I beleive Microsoft quit phone support for Win98. I also find XP to be far more stable.
