Win XP dual boot question: Can I use NTFS if I'm installing Win98 on another partition?

Hi,

I ran into a bit of a snag. I'm just installing WinXP Pro into a dual boot and it asked me if I wanted to install the NTFS filing system. It said that if I plan on running another OS on the hdd like Win98 or ME, that I shouldn't install it.

Now.. Does this mean that if I'm installing WinXP into the same partition on the hdd of another OS or if I plan to have Win98 or ME anywhere on the hdd even if it's on its own partition?

I'm installing this now, so if someone could clarify it for me ASAP, it would be most appreciated!

TIA,

Sal

You know what.. I thought it through and from the information that I dug up, it is my understanding that WinXP and Win2k can see NTFS, but Win98 can't. That is why I decided not to use NTFS. I plan to install all my apps on the same partitition as WinXP and I want to be able to see them in Win98. Did I do the right thing?

BTW.. I read somewhere were you can change the filing system to NTFS later if you wanted to anyway. Is this true? Am I doing the best thing here?

Thanks again,

Sal

You did the right thing.

If you wish, you can convert to NTFS at a later date. Remember that Win98 cannot access NTFS without 3rd party utilities.
