Win XP can't find my Promise ATA card

I have a Promise ATA card that worked well in my file box with a Shuttle AN35N board and XP1800. I replaced the board and CPU with a Sempron 3400+ using the same drives and controller and now it won't work.

It's a straight forward Promise ULTRA 100TX2 and I don't boot from it. Actually, I used the same card, cables and drive configuration that I had with the Shuttle.

The BIOS sees the card when I boot up but Windows doesn't. I can't even find it in the Device Mangler.

If I attach a drive to it the card detects the drive and I get an immediate black screen after the DMI info rolls off the screen.

It never gets to the Windows boot screen with the HD attached. I can power off, remove the drive cable (yup, I already replaced that) and boot up fine - but Windows still won't see the card.

I swapped PCI slots but there was no change. I tried it with another drive and it was still a no-go. Any ideas? I've never had a controller card fail in this manner before so I'm not sure it is the card.

Thanks,

I may have screwed up the first time by installing the card with the drive, but I have since started it without the drive and it boots fine in to Windows. From there Windows doesn't see it. One thing I am not sure I tried was removing the card, starting Windows and then shutting it down and reinstalling it. And I don't think I ever installd a driver for it except for when I loaded the OS on a drive connected to it. I usually use the OB ATA's for my boot drive and opticals and then hang my storage off the card.

I've used it on many OS installs before and never had this problem but I'm not sure of the sequence I used. You have a point though... the drive won't show up if Windows doesn't find and install the card. I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
