Hi there,

I am attempting to install XP Beta 2, and am having some problems.

First off, I kept getting the BSOD on the first re-boot, it was complaining about USBPORT.SYS. I unplugged my USB mouse and keyboard and changed them for regular PS/2 connection ones, and then I also removed all my peripheral hardware (sound card, ATA100 controller card (which meant moving my HD over to normal IDE channel), and network card etc...)... Just to be sure there wouldn't be any other conflicts.

I have rebooted the machine, and when prompted to hit F6 for additional SCSI/Raid controllers I did this and loaded on the Win2000 version of the HPT366 controller (onboard my BE-6), and continued. This time, no Error to do with USBPORT.SYS. However, it's now stuck saying "Setup is starting Windows Whistler", and has been saying this for quite some time now. I dont want to reboot, because the HD LED keeps going on and off and so I think it's doing something. I dont want to break it.

Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem? How long does this stage take? Has anyone got any ideas??

See my system rig page (link below) to see what system I have but remember I've taken out my sound card / network / and ATA100 cntrller card temporarily...

THANKS for any assistance!!

Don't load the alternate scsi driver if you're connected to the IDE channel. Let whistler load and then add the driver as a mass storage controller device in device manager. It worked for me, then I switched the drive to ATA 100 channel. Works fine now.
