Win XP and Win98se won't share using IPX/SPX

This is what I have; 1 pc with WinXP Pro, 2 pc's with Win98se, and all connected via a switch, DSL/cable router, and cable modem to the internet. BTW, I liked the NetBEUI protocol because it added a little extra "encryption" for my home network (not compatible w/internet protocol and all that), but decided to drop it since XP doesn't support it.

So how 'bout IPX/SPX for my home network... after all, won't it have the same security as NetBEUI? I tried about everything to implement it, but XP won't share. My two Win98se machines squawk at each other just fine under IPX/SPX, but the XP pc doesn't want to play at all. I pinged and ran \\the win xp pc from one local machine, and up popped a window of the shared folders, so it's not hardware.

In case you're wondering, yes I used TCP/IP protocol, and the XP machine shares its files and folders real nice, but I'm not crazy at all about using my home network on the same protocol as millions of other nodes in the world with only a Swiss cheese router between us.

I've tried doing what they said here with no luck.

Is there any hope of getting this to work without having to buy two more M$ licenses?

To follow up, I just took a peek at the "workgroup" window on my XP Pro machine, and it doesn't even show up on its own local system. So now I'm wondering if anybody has been able to get IPX/SPX file sharing to work at all with this OS. If anyone is wonder, yes, I have IPX/SPX bindings set to "File and printer sharing..." and "Client for M$..." on all 3 machines.

I believe XP still has NetBEUI if you want to use it, it just isn't "officially" supported.

Thanks Sukhoi and JackMDS, I'll try installing and using it again.

But is the IPX/SPX protocol working in XP? I'm being rhetorical. It must be, but it'd be nice to know what am I doing wrong.

On the WinXP machine, do you have IPX bound to File and Printer sharing, and is NetBIOS enabled for IPX? If not, the XP computer will not show up on the IPX network.
