Hey guys, here is a problem I have been having. I can't get XP or 2K installed. Whenever I try it goes through the beginning fine. When it reboots into the setup though, I get a stop error. It says check the hard drive controllers and configuration. Any ideas at all? Here is my setup:

AMD Athlon 700mgz
Microstar mobo (not sure of the model number)
IMB Deskstar 20 gig HD
Wester Digital 8 gig HD
Sound Blaster Live
GeForce 1
D-Link Network card
HP CD burner
256 megs of ram

Other than this, my PC runs very well with no problems other than the occasional program freezing.

See if you have virus protection (boot sector protection) enabled in BIOS. It should be disabled for the setup to run.

...and are you running a RAID configuration? Or even if you're not do you have the HD on a raid controller?

RHi is right it sounds like you are running a RAID card. You need to have a disk with the RAID card drivers on it and press F6(I think it is F6) right when XP/2000 starts to load.

I think I had the problem you are talking about when I installed Windows 2000 on my ABIt BE6. It had a HighPoint ATA/66 controller onboard in addition to be standard ATA/33. W2K setup wouldn't recognize the boot drive on the external controller. After lots of trial and error, I got it working by switching the drive over to the ATA/33 controller and moving it back after the installation finished.

I had this problem with my MSI K7T-Turbo (MS-6330) and the solution I found was to flash the bios to the newest version. worked like a charm. Hope that helps you! PM me if you need help flashing it.
