Win XP and RAM????

Most of the windows formats can only handle 512 megs of RAM without modification. And even when you do that the system only runs minimally well. Does win XP handle more RAM than 512?? Can I put 1 gig of RAM without having to rearrange my system greatly?????

As far as I can tell, you can use as much ram as you wish. Windows XP is based on NT, and there are NT servers out there running with obscene amounts of RAM so, I don't think 1 gig would cause any problems at all.

2k advanced server will handle 8gb ( Im pretty sure)
2K pro will only handle 1gb ( again , fairly sure)

You can put more in, but the OS wont utilize it (diminishing returns)

I would have to guess that XP is closer to 2k Pro than Advanced Server. 1gb seems right

whats a windows format?

Anyway, Windows XP , the operating system, can handle more ram than your motherboard likely supports.

Windows xp can for us common people can support upto 4 gigs of ram. But I have heard of people using over a gig of ram and it running fine.

But Unless you work with some insane programs(such as photoshop), or encrypting, then more than likely you will not notice a big improvement.

pro and server take up to 4 gigs each
advanced server (I think) takes either 8 or 16 gigs
datacenter takes 64 gigs ( I think again )

Hey, I'm a Home Power User and I run 8 Counter-Strike servers, a web server, NNTP server, and FTP server.

512 seems to be about the sweet spot for me....Im gonna order another 256 to max my mobo out and see if it is any notable difference.

Why would you need 8 CS servers? At 20 players, each takes 80K/sec uplink. Lord knows what a leech FTP would do.

I've worked at a company using IIS and we pushed it to the max. IIS can take about 240 hits/sec before it starts going funny and dying. A decent news server also t
