I know this is quite small problem but really annoying one.

After installing my Windows XP professional to my system and boot it up, it never stops to blink Hard Drive led. Even if you just let it be for 2 hours it still blinks the Hard Drive led as if it would load something. I have checked every tweak site but none of these sites have a solution for this one.

I tryed and installed the same XP to my dads computer but hes computer shows no sing of extra HD reading.

Anybody here suffer from the same problem and has finded a solution for it? I have installed the OS many times and allways the same problem, the same problem was with my old A7V133-c motherboard too.

here is my system:

Win XP pro
FAT32
thunderbird 1333
512 pc2100 kingmax memory
Epox 8kha+ rev 2.0 with latest bios
Seagate barracude ata IV
via 4-1 4.37 drivers installed
Elsa GF3 TI200 with 23.11 detonators
Fortissimo 2 with 1.02 drivers

I have WinXP Home edition and noticed the same thing. The 'Activity' light is contantly lit as if the hard drive is working. But that is even when the computer is idle. I'm at a loss to explain.

Finally somebody else has noticed the same thing. Iam 100% sure that your machine is doing the same thing as myn.

With Windows ME I dont got any extra HD activity so its gotta be XP.

Could you post your specs if we got a similiarity in setup.

Mainly Iam worried about possible performance loss or damaging the HD.

Do you get performance loss? If not or don't know, then forget it, it's not a big deal. Take some happy pills and don't be so paranoid :)

Alarmer:

My specs:

Athlon XP 1900+
ASUS A7V266-E
Samsung 512 PC2100 DDR
ASUS GF3 T-5
SB Audigy X-Gamer
WD 40GB 7200RPM
WinXP Home

All drivers, etc. are what loaded with WinXP or what was on the CD from manufacturer. I have tried to check to see if there is "actual" HD activity, but it's kinda tough to tell with all those darn fans going!! LOL
It doesn't seem that the hard drive is working, though, the light just stays on. Go figure. System is stable as can be and fast as well. Good luck and let me know if you figure it out.

We both a similiar systems with minor differences.

Both have VIA motherboard and 512 memory. Hehe mayby we should take happy pills and forget it, but I would like to know too
if there is really some HD activity or is it just the blinking led. Anybody know any software which could check this one?

I have problems to hear any real HD activity at all cause barracuda ATA IV is so quiet :)

ps. I changed the pagefile from 500mg to 256mg , I got that from a tweaking page , but it didint change anything. I dont see how XP could use page file cause I got around 400+ free memory left after booting.

This may seem dumb but are you sure that your computer motherboard HD LED wire pin header is wired correctly? I've seen the HD light stay on if the HD header's + and - wires are reversed or cross-wired with the wrong pin header. (I hope this makes sense to you!)
