I posted here a bit ago about activating windows. I couldn't activate it from my computer because "local scripting has been disbaled" and i couldn't reenable no matter how hard i tried. Now i can't log into windows because it says it hasn't been activated and kicks me out. I just went looking for a way to do it over the phone and the only number i could find was one where they would charge me for calling. Supposedly i am supposed to get the number to call from the 'activation wizard' but i can't get there. Anyone got any ideas, i really would like to get into my machine.

It says the number to call is based on location. I live in northern new jersey, if anyone has the number for around there for some reason.

EDIT: That appears to be a Tech Support number, try this one: 1-888-571-2048

1-800-936-5700 maybe.

Sounds like some other program has gotten in & screwed up the system. During the activation, the screen does give you an 800 number to call to activate. If it doesn't, than I'd assume that some program has definately gotten it & totally messed with XP's activation process and is trying to con you into calling that phone number and putting massive charges on your phone.

I'd start to consider a repair installation of XP.

Have you installed any Anit-Spyware or Anti-Virus software? They may be attempting to block malicious scripts. Since most windows applications now run via psuedo-internet explorer shell the antispyware software in question could be wondering why a script is trying to modify hard disk files and registry entries and blocking the process. I would try to boot without any other applications.

To do this run:

msconfig

Go into startup and disable all, then go into services and check the box that says Hide Microsoft Services, then disable all.

Another problem may arise, some of these anti-malware products are so good that they will stop the changes you're making, try to disable them as best you can before making these changes.

Hope this helps,

EDIT: The best thing to do is to activate right away, pop online after a fresh install *BEHIND A HARDWARE FIREWALL* and activate, then install your software protection.
