Win XP Activation Error?

Hey guys. I really need your help on this one. On my computer, I have Windows XP Professional installed, and was working fine until I decided to upgrade another computer to Windows XP using the Corporate version. Now that I have the second computer up and running, I head over to log in to my own computer and it gives me a Windows Product Activation Error saying "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0x80004005" I licensed both installations to myself, and I think that's what's causing the problem. The Professional edition on my own computer was purchased and the license is valid. I can uninstall the Corporate edition if it will get my other computer working. I tried to contact Microsoft on the web, but it asks me for an product ID. Since I cannot get into my computer, I cannot get the ID, and therefore cannot provide it to them for help. Has anyone else encountered this problem or have a solution for it? Thanks in advance.

HMMM, if it wasn't for the fact that this happened right after you installed xp corp then I would say that the two shouldn't affect each other. If you want to know if removing Corp will affect anything then just unplug the computer from the network. I would say that if it did anything though, then the damage will already have been done.

Thanks for the reply, and like your name, I will do the same thing. I unplugged my primary computer from the network to see if it would work, but that didn't, so I tried unplugging both computers, and that didn't work either. I'm kind of confused how Microsoft would know that I have 2 copies of XP licensed to me if I'm not connected to the network. I finally got through to one of the customer service reps at Microsoft, and he also said that there should be no problem. I'll try to call back tomorrow morning to see if I can find any other answers because their computers were down tonight. I'm kind of regretful to restore my Ghost Image from right after my clean install of XP because I have so much files to back up. I tried Ghosting about 20GB of data, but after 1 hour, and 6 CDs, I gave up. If anyone else has any other suggestions, please send them by. They will be gladly accepted. 🙂

Well, I finally got through to Microsoft tech support (and hey,...their technicians and CSR's are kind of nice!). We tried a few possibilities, one of them starting in safe mode deselecting Selective Services from msconfig. Another was to run sfc /scannow at the RUN prompt, but that didn't work either. So now, I'm waiting for a repair installation. I hope that works, because I haven't backed up my files. I spoke to the technician about reinstalling my Ghost image from right after I installed XP, and he told me that he wasn't sure if Ghost works in XP. Does anyone know the answer to this question? Also, I'd like to try it out anyway if my repair installation doesn't work, but I'm not sure how to install a Ghost image. This might be a topic for another forum, but should I format and then install my Ghost image or should I just install the Ghost image? Thanks again.
