Got a client that I'm installing new machines for and they have an old software call Power Practice.

The program itself is installed and working but getting this error when the program dials out on a modem

16-bit MS-Dos Subsystem
c:\powerptx\shngate.pif
Invalid program file name, please check your pif file. choose close to terminate the application

The are brand new machines with XP Pro sp3

If I double click on that file same error. i have copied over that directory from there machine to my laptop and then double click the file and it works fine 😕

tried the common answers found on ms kb site any ideas?

*edit* Here is the error 16biterror2.jpg

yep, the command itself runs fine, the pif points to a .bat file in a sub directory under the folder where the pif file is located. and its windows xp 32. (c:\mainfolder\pif file -> folder -> folder with command)

I have tried the compatibility settings as well as the old machines where windows 2000.

Why not just create a new pif file then?
I think i tried that, but will again

Are you using 8.3 folder and file names?
Yep

**SOLVED**
turns out in the pif file it did not have the full path to what it was calling for. Added the whole path and now works fine
