Win won't start without SD card inserted??

This is a bit of a strange problem...

A few days ago I switched my BIOS from IDE to AHCI, which, after some headache, worked out fine. But now, whenever I start my comp it hangs at "staring windows" UNLESS there is an SD card in the card reader--not a bootable one, just ANY SD card w/ data on it. I have to then reset the comp, and choose "start windows normally", and everything boots up fine (again, only when there is no SD card inserted). I have already gone into my BIOS to make sure that the startup items are in proper order, and I've even gone so far as to double check my boot sequence through EasyBCD (which lists only one OS, the correct one). I'd hate to switch the system back to IDE completely (if that's causing the problem) b/c there's a significant performance improvement for my SSD in AHCI (14-22% seq read/write and 8-13% random read/write). Help?

FYI, this is all on the following system: AMD Athlon II 620 @ stock, 4GB OCZ DDR2 800, 60GB OCZ Agility, HD3300 On-board.

Thanks in advance!

I'll bet you did a bootrec with an SD card in the slot. Boot to the recovery console then go to a command prompt and run the following commands after making sure the SD Card drive is empty:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot

then reboot

Sorry for the late response--I've been out of town.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem. Any other ideas?
