win Vista 64bit and external enclosure problem

Hi everyone,

I have this very annoying Vista "feature" where I can't get my pictures from external hdd.
laptop: win xp, dell inspiron 710m
desktop: win vista 64bit, c2d e6600, dfi infinity 975x, 4 gb ram.

Enclosure is rosewill (don't know exact model) with usb and firewire port. I copied files (pictures) from my laptop to external hdd (winxp, no problem) and I need to transfer to my desktop. It looks ease, right? However, if I connect to my desktop through firewire, I would get some random errors, that file cannot be read, option to skip it, till my total commander hangs. Then I used usb port, even worse, can't copy anything. Connected laptop again, everything works perfect, no read or copy errors, etc. It pisses me off that photoshop can open files, I can work on them, but I can't copy them from external hdd to internal directly. I used different usb ports, used total commander, windows commander, but I still can not copy damn pictures. Its just frustrating. Does anyone else experienced similar problem?
