I have installed winnt4 on my new dualie p3 1ghz rig. ive never used nt4 before, only destop os's like 95/98/me/xp. I have to install a program called web works for work purposes. I need to get it up and running and then initalize the server(web server) part of NT4. web works requires it to run as you run the program on a server(Dual 1ghz with NT4) while any other computer on the network running IE 4.0 or higher can access it as it is accessed thru IE.

Problem is when i click on server, it says "the server service has not been started. Would you like to start the server service?"

I click on yes and it says attempting to connect/initalize...

THen it comes up with an error "Not enough server storage is available to process this command"

can anyone explain why as i need this for work. Its an 80gb HD partitioned into
C: = 4GB
D: = 72GB

ram is 768mb

Problem #2

I have a DLink DFE-530TX Rev. A1 NIC installed for networking purposes. I have found what i believe to be the correct drivers for Rev. A1 as there are several revisions. The comp cannot see the NIC and I have tried to check to see if it is an IRQ but not quite certain or confident about what i am doing.

It is installed, connected to the hub and lights are on. It was working before. Do I Have some settings incorrect?

OH and I have installed SP6a so from that angle it should be fine.

Thanks in advance as I am quite stumped and am a noob in the world of NT4

Did you setup the network connection up (TCP/IP, adaptor, etc) before installing SP6a? I had the same problem a while back, had to reinstall sp6a and then uninstall/reinstall the TCP/IPsettings....there is a M$ kb onthis, thats the way I found out..

Here is the link..I had it saved at work on my PC there...SERVER STORAGE

For the NIC, you should have to put the NIC in the PCI slot, then start the PC..it may find the NIC automatically, I usually cancel this prompt and then right click the Network Neighborhood, then the Adapters tab, then click add, then Have Disk, then give it the path to your drivers.
Then reboot, log back on and you should be all set

for problem #1, just reinstall SP6a, and it'll fix it... seen it quite a few times.

on #2 the server service is a dependency of many other services, once its fixed your nic will most likely work if the drivers are correct.

Whenever you install NICs in WinNT, it usually works best to install the Service Pack, the install the NIC / Drivers / then REINSTALL the service pack.
