Win Media Player 11, IE, and OE

I moved this from software since it deals with IE and OE:

I am using Win XP Home, SP2 (with all updates). Has anyone had trouble with this version of WMP? I downloaded and installed it this morning, and IE, OE, and MS games all disappeared. I successfully reinstalled IE through the control panel and WMP then disappeared. The same thing happened when I reinstalled OE. Could not restore IE or OE without WMP disappearing. I ran System Restore from yesterday's restore point, and everything is OK, but can't figure out what went wrong. Any ideas?
 
I have tried it three times, and reverted to WMP 10 each time. I embed a lot of MIDI music as background in OE6 messages to certain friends. With WMP 11, my MIDI will not play in OE6 as background. The easy fix is to reject 11. otherwise it is very good. I use it in my laptop, as it has a different MIDI generator (Creative) and has no problem. WMP 11 doesn't like Soundmax.
 
I downloaded and install the beta, I think it was a beta of wmp 11 and that worked great, I'm still using it however I have had strange issues after trying to update from the windows update site and I did a system restore as well and haven't tried to update it since.
