Hoe do i boot directly into safe mode in Win ME??? its on a dell or a gateway a girl on my hall comp is fuked and i need to boot itto safe mode cause every time itboots normally explorer just crashes and never lets me do anything

F8 doesn't give you the option to boot into safe mode after it POSTs?

hold down the ctrl button as soon as computer passes post.

Might be alt button. It has been a while.

Just looked it up. both CTRL and the SHIFT key work.

On any OEM PC with WinME, it should be F8 before the Windows flash screen.

thanks ill try both. i hate me and never figured out how to work it so any other suggestions are welcome also. forgot about F8 that should work

Hell, if you can get into ME regularly, just go to "run" and type MSCONFIG. Then go tot he GENERAL tab and click on ADVANCED. then cick on "enable start up menu"

When you reboot it will load that automaticly.

well yes that would work BUT when it boots normally it crashes imiditly and i cant do anything. at that poinyt nopt even ctrl+alt+delete dosent even work. if i get teh task manager up and kill explorer that not responding i get maby 5 secs of tiem before it happens all over again and again and again............

well, despite the quality of the post, I think I understand

If you end-task on explorer, your system WILL restart. Period. That's the one thing you have to leave running (along with systray, but I've gotten away with ending it too).

Format - reinstall.

Ya, f8 should do it. ME = 98.

If you have an ME startup disk, you could boot to Floppy or you could boot to Cd. then edit the msdos.sys file.

add line bootmenu = 1.

then restart, it should give you the menu choices.
