Can the Windows ME Step Up provide a clean installation and not an upgrade of the WIN9x operating system? If so I'm guessing you need to verify that you own WIN98 by popping in the CD during installation. Is this correct?

Windows Me Upgrade CD "can" be clean installed. But needs your full version of Win95 through 98/98SE. Probably some other full version of a Microsoft software as well too.

Are you sure it needs every version of WIN9x from 95a, 95b, 95c, 98FE and 98SE? And then some more Microsoft Software? What else could it need? I thought as long as you had a full version (I hope OEM counts since I intend to upgrade my parents Gateway computer) of 98FE/SE it could be done.

I used an OEM version of Win98SE to verify my WinMe full install.

Any full version of 9x will work for verification, including OEM. You only need one, not all.

I think the special version of Me upgrade that was selling for around $49 could only upgrade a 98 installation, not 95.
