Win Me install

Ok, it looks like I am going to have to format my c: drive and reinstall windows. I am currently running Win98 SE, but have a copy of Win Me that I never installed due to all the reports on hardware forums of problems.

So from anyone with experience upgrading from 98 to Me, is it really that problematic? Anything to look out for or avoid?

I actually went from 98se to me and back to 98se as it was so flaky. For what it's worth.

I had many prolems with 98 se, so i clean installed me, what a waste of an upgrade. Luckily 2000 came my way. But if you are going to go up to ME, definetely do a clean install!!

never had Win98SE but I used 98 first edition
I had less problems with it than I did with Windows ME.
Switched to Windows 2000 and I'm not looking back.
2000 is great!

anyway I would just reinstall 98. You can get most of the Windows ME features by downloading them from the Windows update site. You cant get the system restore funtion or the movie maker though.

I've used both on my system, 2000 has given me nothing but problems(IE Hangs, Desktop Color Depth, Loss of files), ME has yet to crash.

I just went to Win ME after trying out 98. I did a clean install and Win ME is pretty stable for me, whereas I kept getting lock ups with Win 98. Win ME also configures your internet connection for you if you are using @home cable internet. Just remember to write down your computer's name beforehand.

I noticed that alot of the people having problems with Win ME are ones who installed it over another system like 98. It seems to work good after a clean install.
