You're too hard on them. What's wrong with giveaways to draw people to your site?
Are they any worse than posting on other forums "come check out my site" or "let me know what you think of my review"? Not IMO, I can't get the best/most costly video card available from that.
Are they worse than spam? See above, plus nuisance factor.
Seems like cheap advertising to me. They don't demand that you post, only that you register as a user, so they can tell potential advertisers that they have "X,xxxx registered users".

I don't begrudge them trying to earn a living.

Now go to my site to discuss this further....
LOL, jk

Just out of idle curiosity I wonder if he is truly a US Navy pilot. I just so happen to repair the little black boxes out of every type of aircraft in the US Naval inventory.

There's a clear difference imo.

Making givaways is not the issue, no problems there at all. Requiring that you register on their forums to enter the competition is also perfectly fine. My issue is with the referral system, which encourages people to spam on their behalf, with the incentive being a greater chance of winning the prize. The spammers filling my email inbox every day are just trying to earn a living. Catch shoplifters and half of them, hilariously, actually beleive they're just trying to earn a living. There's two ways to "earn" a living, honestly and dishonestly - ok so there's lots of grey inbetween, but somewhere there's a line and imo this is on the wrong side of it. (note for idiots; dishonest != criminal [edit: and != means "not equal to" btw :/). Is a website that provides this sort of spamming incentive the sort of website with the integrity for trustworthy reviews?

I still think you're too hard on them Davegod. If I remember right they ask you not to spam.
Are you saying if we were buddies and I sent you and my other friends a group email asking you to sign up for this and refer me you'd be pissed? Some friend? I don't usually get angry at my buds if they send me something that I don't consider important.

BTW- would you sign up for this and say I referred you? LOL, jk
