OK here is the deal. I am the team captain of TeAm FaD, and will not personally be participating in this contest.

I have 3 of these workstations, with ASUS mother boards, and a generic video card.

I would like to start a 30 day contest for 1 of these computers, followed several other contests for the other 2.

Here is what I am thinking about for the contest, in trying to keep it fair for everyone not just the mega crunchers.

Your GFlops count at FaD as 1 to 1
You have to sign up 2 new TeAm Anandtech FaD Member computers to enter
You get 150,000 GFlops for every new member who processes a minimum of 100,000 GFlops in the contest period.
That new member is able to participate too.

Let me know what you think, how we could make this more fair for people with just a computer or two.

Looking for your comments before I solidify the contest in the next day or 2.

Fantastic idea for team spirit dringdahl! But I'm curious: what are you going to do if someone on the other side of the world wins?

This would be "new" to the TeAm and not just "new" to FaD? (To bring in new people) 🙂

This sounds like an awesome opportunity. I have a 1GHz Athlon I would love to replace 😀 I will track the stats and provide updates as part of the three times weekly stats, or maybe on alternate days.

I understand that you get 150,000 GFlops for every member who produces more than 100,000 GFlops... do you also get his Production for the duration of the race also?

No I was not thinking about that, other wise the new members would have a hard time competing.

Excellent point. I had not considered that affect.
 
I will also pull myself from the contest.

I am an AnandTech staff member, and generate the stats.

This should open the contest to more people!

I have a bunch of these getting replaced with Dual Xeons, so what a better use than to give them out to our team members.

I have often wondered but no enought to enquire. I do not personally know Adul, and doubt Adul knows me as I am a behind the scene's kind of guy. Also, many requests in the post have gone unanswered so I doubt I would get a different response.

hrm.....when did/does it start? Is there some kind oflimit to the # of computer's we're allowed to use? IF i get friends to sign up...what if they dont do it a lot?

rut roh...after reading more i'm considering it more, not that i think i could win the computer...but just because i like the being able to concentrate research.

Started last night, so its early. Yes add all the computers you want, read the other thread about the contest, Ross had a sneaky, but legal idea.

It is about concentrated research, and the results are published as a certificate you can hang on your wall.
