Win 98 Updates

My parents' computer, an old Pentum III, died recently. I've been trying to fix it over the holidays. I think that it was zapped through the phone line. I had to replace the PSU and modem. Then there was some registry error that kept popping up so I decided to reformat and install Win 98. Everything is going pretty well, but the Windows Update website will not work for. As of a few months ago Microsoft stopped supporting Win 98, this was news to me since I haven't used it for years.

Are the old Win 98 updates archived anywhere?

yes it is true they stopped support for win 98, but all the files are still there. over the last few days I decided to put an old machine to use for old games and installed win 98 se on it and tried to update it and got error messages. there is a way to get each update from microsoft, but which link to clik is not obvious and once you get there it looks like something you dont want to do as each update appeared to be mutilple files you had to download.

I found an unofficial service pack (google for it - at work and dont remember exact link) on a website called exuberant or something like that. i down loaded that (150 mb) and ran that and then went back to the official ms site through windows update link in windows and it found more updates to do. Your choice to whether you trust that 3rd party site, but several other sites discussed that site when i searched for answers. I think the updater doesnt like the older versions of win 98 for some reason and ms aint gonna fix it.
