We will need more details about the hardware and configuration.

You may want to try to reinstall.

You obviously have old hardware as well as an old operating system. No offense.

Mechanical and Electrical parts DO wear out over time.

It's time.

You were dreading someone saying this, right? ;) But it's time.

Time to buy or BUILD a new computer.

Could we get Win98 working for you again? IMO, 75% says NO. B/C of the chance of your hardware being old and therefore, possibly failing.

As of 13 August 2004, it's just not worth fixing a Windows98-based PC anymore (I.E. a PC with a Win98 OS and hardware from that era....the PC is worth about $20.....if that much)

These days, PCs are cheap and WinXP Pro can be found for $150 or less.

Make the jump; you won't be sorry. Win98 was such an inferior operating system in many aspects. Change now: it's the perfect time.

Is the cpu being cooled properly? Overclocking? Is the voltage and multiplier set correctly if it is not detected automatically. You might try this memory tester also.

^ good advice. Memory's my first guess as well. After that a reinstall might be a good idea; I remember '98 used to thrive on frequent OS reinstalls (ie. it sucked :p)
