Win 98 OS on external USB HD

I would like to have Win 98 installed on an external HD and boot from it whenever I need to use it on a computer. I have a MB that supports booting from USB but so far I have been unable to boot from it. Is it possible? Is there a guide I can follow?

Hi, The external drive needs to be bootable. That is done at format time with FORMAT /S.
It can also be done if already formatted by booting from startup floppy or any normal boot that's working then run SYS X: where X is the external drive. Info is for 95, 98, 98SE and maybe ME etc.
Hope this helps, jim
