Help!! I have a W98SE machine that will not auto power off after shutting down Windows, you need to push the power button like on an AT motherboard computer. I have looked in the BIOS and can't find anything. It's a dual slot 1 Supermicro board. Thanks. R

Does it give the prompt "It is now safe to turn off your computer", or does it just hang? Do you have ACPI turned on in bios? Does Win98 have the proper board drivers installed? Have you downloaded all the updates? Are you running dual processors with a single processor OS, or are you only running a single processor on that board? Please include your system specs and hardware installed.

It gives the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer". It is a W2K pro box not W98 (sorry old guy in action) with 2 processors, SCSI drives. It was on an instrument so we did not want it to auto shut off. I am not at the machine now, so I will check the ACPI again in the BIOS on Monday. Thanks. R

Sounds like you have ACPI disabled in windows. You can find this option in control panel under power.

If you had ACPI turned off, it probably loaded Win2k as an MPS multiprocessor system HAL, and you may need to change the driver for the system once you reactivate ACPI. It should say in device manager under computer "ACPI multiprocessor computer". Sometimes it really messes things up and you may need to reinstall Win2k to get the proper system hardware abstract layer installed. Good luck

Just check that APM is checked off under power management. If it isn't then do so. Let us know.
