Ok, this seems like a dumb question, but I cant figure out how to get rid of the password prompt on win 98. Every time I boot up It asks for Username and Password. I'm the only who uses the system and it keeps my computer from starting completely until I put it in. I even set the password to nothing, but windows still hangs on the prompt until i click ok.

how do I get rid of it?

Use TweakUI. Do a google search, feeling lucky.

Edit: Never mind, here's your link: http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

(Ignore the OS requirement. It works on 98 SE.)

Yes, Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network -> remove "Client for Microsoft Networks". While you're there, feel free to remove NetBEUI if you see it. You are obviously not on a Windows network.

Install Microsoft Family Network and select it in the network control panel. This will unselect "The Microsoft Network" and will automatically log in if you only have _1_ profile set up on that win98 install. You can go into the users control panel to remove all but 1 user. Once this is done, windows will automatically log into the microsoft network via the Microsoft family Network. Note that you want to keep both Microsoft network and Family Network in control panel.

This is the "good" way to do this.

Antother way is to use TweakUI which has an autoform filler for Microsoft Network.

As foxkm said, don't uninstall the "Client for Microsoft Networks", just choose the "Windows Family Logon". Then take it another step. Do a search for *.pwl files and delete all that you find. Reboot the PC and when it prompts you for a password, leave the password field blank and hit enter. You will no longer be asked for your username and password.

well, the Microsoft Family Network took care of it.
Just go network control panel and add client->Microsoft Family Network
the regisrtry thing did NOT work. > Autologon
