Well here we go again,
Dear old Mom has another problem ,this time it don't look good
She turned the putter on and got this message
OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND
She's gonna bring it over for me to fix (LOL)
Ok guys Help me out where do I start

Win95?

Hmmm, guessing system is 4yrs old, or there abouts.
CMOS battery may have died, thus your hard-drive is not identified correctly anymore.

Loose connector to the hard-drive....

Hard-drive frozen, had one go last week, only (1) machine we have has enough extra poof to get it spinning so i could mirror it. So make sure it spins-up properly when turned on.

Good Luck

Thanks I was thinking Hard drive, I'll check bat and wires when She gets it here.
And also double check the floppy, after all it is mom we are talking about here (LOL)
Thanks for your reply.

Sometimes older systems have problems in initialising the BIOS settings, this occurs possibly by improper shut down, power surge etc. Go into the BIOS and make sure the HD is set to auto so that it picks it up when the PC boots.

Good luck.

😉

I'm in the same boat Atlantis. 🙂

Sometimes I think my mom hoses her system just so I'll go over to her house.

LMAO @ Ben & this ...
<< Sometimes I think my mom hoses her system just so I'll go over to her house. >>

CLASSIC omg, that was soo funny 😀😀😀

Could be caused by a virus... i can't think of which, but I know last semester at school I came across a bunch of computers that were done over by a virus (i think Hybris... maybe??). Try running windows setup if you determine all the hardware is ok. just make sure she has some antivirus running and knows how to update it. 🙂

If everything looks okay, your master boot record may have been erased. Make a Windows 95/98 boot disk from another computer, boot it on your mom's computer, and type fdisk /mbr at the command prompt.
