With Start8 I can't tell the difference between it and 7. Now have 8.1, and that uses Start8 1.2. A bit faster. I guess that gives me a qualified answer:

With Start8,Yes it is.
Without Start8, No it isn't.

Start8 is $5 plus a service in the background.

StartIsBack is better and cheaper.

True,

StartIsBack is only $2 USD for a 2 PC license
StartIsBack doesn't need an extra running service to operate
StartIsBack doesn't have activation limits like Start8, with Start8, after I activated 5 times the license key was blocked and I hate to wait for customer services to reset it telling me that they would only reset it once!!! never buying anything from Stardock anymore

StartIsBack, you can activate as many times as you wish with no limits as long as it on the same machine

StartIsBack early in the days was the only start menu app that didn't have bugs, Start8 had a serious bug before when you right click on your desktop, randomly, Explorer.exe would just crash and restart

StartIsBack FTW

It is actually $3 so you'll probably need to sell your vacation home :awe:

Another start menu is Classic Shell which is free / donationware. This what I use and it works fine and is highly customizable. If I had to buy I would probably get StartIsBack.

Windows 8 is ok. Most people don't like the metro interface and that is why we are suggestion start menu replacements. It's not that bad and Windows 8.1 changes a few things but it doesn't bring back the classic start menu we are used to using.

It is probably ok on a desktop, where things like the start menu are a very minor annoyance. But on a tablet .... dont even get me started. Just dont go there.
