Win 7 updates on shut down everytime

Ever since last week's Microsoft updates, my laptop (Win 7) warns, right after I click shut down, not to turn off or unplug my computer. What gives? I never seen this before. It shuts down just fine after a bout 30-45 seconds.

Any answers to solve my curiosity are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I can't remember when I DIDN'T SEE THIS! Saw it again the other day; I too run W7. It is normal! When new patches come in--I choose to install them myself---they download but don't install.

In such cases, you will notice a yellow triangle in front of 'shut down' with exclamation point. It simply means the new patches are ready to be installed when you shut down.

When you do shut down, the system will then reboot, and, before Windows loads, install the new patches.

Doing a cold shut down during the installation will mess up the installation.

This is just MS being cautious and conservative and not assuming we are always focused on what it is doing.

BUT....R U saying you initially let the new patches fully install and yet you are still seeing this message? If so, pls go to Windows Updates and look at yr history. See if any of them failed to install, which is possible. If so, MS now has excellent tool to fix this. Just follow the prompts.

Yes, the updates fully installed. This is the first time It's happened.

Hi, again.

R U saying you went to W Update>History and you see no failed indications for any recent patches on the right?

Cause if I am getting yr issue clearly, not all the recent patches installed successfully, I think, which is why they are still trying to install when U shut down.

Tell me, is there a yellow triangle in front of the words 'shut down' when you hit yr start button?

Thank you. I went nosing around as you suggested and, lo, there were still 3 updates remaining. Why they didn't install with the rest, I don't know, but everything is up to date now, and shut down is quick. Thank you for the help!
