For some reason Media Center has Stopped working in my Win 7 64 bit home premium laptop. We use it for traveling and it is our TV for traveling and MCE won't work. The laptop is less than a year old. It tried to load and says MCE has experienced an error. I have been looking in the event log but can't find an error that corresponds to the last time I tried to open it. Can anyone tell me how to find out what the problem is? It will bring up the main screen for MCE in safe mode but when you try to play something it crashes. It also gives me a message that the video card does not have enough memory but I think that is because it did not load the drivers for it in safe mode. I tried turning if off and back on in programs and features and I also tried removing media center related files from opening in msconfig -services. None of these things made the problem better or worse. I also did an update install and that did not help. It just messed up some settings. I have an old backup that I made with Acronis 11 but I am afraid to load it. I also have my WHS the old version and it backs up the OS but I know for a fact that the driver disk for recovery does not have the proper drivers. I wish I could install the disk in the server and have it image directly to it somehow using the WHS backup. There must be a way to use these backups without having to do it through the LAN.
I tried to go into the command line to do a file checker scan and frigging Dell has set a password so I can't get in it. I am sure tech support will have no idea what a command line is much less a file check is.
