I have a working windows 7 machine on a haswell refresh (z97) processor. I'm thinking of upgrading to skylake and the question is if i move the hard disk will it 'just work' or will I run into issues ?

In case you ask the reason I'm considering the upgrade is I want to down size my atx case to mini-itx case now that the mini-1070 is out. I've discovered in the short time that skylake has been out all the z97 mini-itx motherboards are gone. If I could get an asrock z97 mini-itx board I would keep my current processor.

The problem is that most of the h97 boards have bad audio. No clue about the ecs z97; actually that board from the spec looks decent - not much in the way of user reviews. Only major complaint would be placement of sata ports. Kind of a weird wifi slot (well the review was weird about it as it looks like a standard 7620 intel slot but the review (guru3d) suggested it was useless.

it might; i think the intel 7240 will also work which is pretty standard device. I'll probably get one in a week or so; want to have time to re-build the system while I can still return the mb if it is doa.
