The drivers should all be built into Windows 7. Dimension 3000 uses the universal intel i865 chipset drivers, the universal intel i865 graphic drivers, and universal nic drivers by intel.

Sound card should have built-in drivers, though I cannot guarantee this, may be some trial and error, plenty of threads across the internet to search through. Worst case scenario you can get a brand new sound card for less than $15, probably get a used one in the fs/t forum for $5 shipped.

And, 2gb is enough for Windows 7. That's how much my HP Probook came stock with.

The Dimension 3000 only supports 2GB max (2x1GB DDR SDRAM).

...I was thinking it was DDR2... my bad.

...is enough to work. It is not, IMHO, enough. My Dell 6000 laptop came with 512MB memory... it worked, but it was not optimal, even with XP. If the OP is going through the trouble to upgrade is OS on that old of a system, my thought is he needs to max out the RAM if he has any hopes of decent function with W7. TBH, I'm scared to try W7 on my Dimension 5150 because of the drivers...

It was my understanding that when Windows 7 first came out, Microsoft basically said you could not upgrade from XP to 7 due to so many hardware compatibility issues. It may be time to recycle that old dell.

Untrue. You can't do an upgrade *install* from XP to 7. You must do a custom install with a format of the drive.

Though I agree about it being time to recycle that old dell, not sure what you could really use it for these days.

I run Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator on my laptop with Windows 7 and 2gb ram. Granted I'm not doing high-end work, but it's plenty fast for what I do.

Someone upgrading a Dimension 3000 to Windows 7, is not using the computer for high-end games, nor for production graphic work.

2gb ram and Windows 7 is more than enough for running the OS, good anti-virus software, web browser and Microsoft office.
