Win 7 detecting phantom monitor and moving windows onto it

I have one monitor but Win 7 is acting like I have two monitors set up. When I open up control panel or display settings it opens the window on the second phantom monitor space so I cant see it. How can I adjust the resolution and get the display to one monitor if the control windows are opening off the screen?

Have you had an additional display on the system in the past? I have a couple programs that sometimes don't come up on the right display when I take my laptop home (don't take my screens of course).

Nope, never. I'm assuming its detecting the "phantom" display because I have a mobo with onboard video but I have an add-in PCI-E card. Kind of annoying.

Anyway I figured out you can push Windows key + Shift + left arrow to move the window back to the main display.

Nice job, if disable your onboard display from the BIOS, it should remove the second showing in the control panel display page.

At least if it's a home/custom built model. If it a retail model, they may not give you that BIOS option.
