Win 7 cd/dvd driver missing. Fresh install, new HDD

I have a pretty big problem on my hands. I recentely wiped my Lenovo laptop using the built in recovery software because it wouldn't boot. Now I get a BSOD saying bad_pool_header and I can't get into safemode to fix anything because windows first needs to be setup! What can I do?

Some updates, still could use help though

I yanked both sticks of ram and put one at a time in. I got pretty far through the Windows setup but then it BSOD'd again. Now whenever I push the power button, it goes past the bios screen and hangs. I don't think I'm going to be able to run a mem test and I can't run any tests through the OS. Other suggestions? Should I go out and buy 2 new sticks of ram for it?

Doesn't the Win7 DVD have a memory tester on it? Boot to that, or use a 3rd party tester burned to a cd.

therein lies the problem. Lenovo doesn't supply a Win7 cd. The installation files are built into a partitioned section of the HDD, I don't have a disc. When I installed Win7 on my desktop, my school was supplying it for free to any undergrad, so I was able to download the files and put them on a flash drive, I no longer have those though.

Ah, gotcha. Try Memtest86+. There's another program to test memory that people say is better, but I don't recall the name. Memtest86+ works though. Let it run overnight, or at least several passes before calling the ram good.

mem test came up clean, i'm thinking it might be the HDD that's the culprit. I removed it, gonna plug it into my dads phenom rig and see if it boots, if not I'll know it's that and I can go out an get another HDD. wish me luck!

seems like the HDD might be the problem. It didn't even boot in my other PC, I'm going to shoot to microcenter tomorrow and scoop up a new one, I can always bring it back if it'snot the problem

okay so a new problem has arisen. Now i'm getting a cd / dvd driver is missing error and after reading a lot online the fixes don't seem to apply to me. I'm installing on a new hard drive with no drivers on it at all, I've tried switching the boot order, switching to compatability mode instead of ahci, etc.

Any other suggestions? Really could use help, this is mind baffling.

Sounds like serious hardware problems to me, quite possibly with the motherboard, or maybe the CPU. Memory and the hardware I mention above can give you seemingly random errors with different parts of the computer.

Have you tried copying the Windows installation folder to the new hard drive and running it from there?

how exactly do i install it off the hard drive. Theres no OS on the computer, it's a blank drive. It's definitely not a hardware issue. It's simply a driver issue an the bios on that board doesn't have a ton of options for me to work with.

Ok, I get what you are saying. What specific model Lenovo do you have ? Can it be booted from a flash drive? If so, you can create a bootable flash drive from your Windows media to use in the install using the tool from the Microsoft store.

If it can't be booted from a flash drive, the solution is much more problematic but it may still be possible if you have a way of installing the laptop hard drive into a desktop.

Install the hard drive in the desktop (unplug all other hard drives in the desktop so you don't mess anything up there). Start the Win7 installation on this machine and let it run through all the initial steps (copy files, expand windows files, installing updates, etc) until the installer restarts the machine for the first time. Watch the install very carefully - you need to catch it as soon as the installer shuts down for the first time and right before the desktop restarts. At this point, turn off the power to the desktop. Remove the laptop hard drive from the desktop, re-install it into the laptop, and power it on. If everything worked right, the install should continue to run from there on the laptop as normal.

If this will not work, another option may be to find out what CD driver is missing and add it to a custom burned Win7 install CD.

Failing that, your only other recourse may be to order a set of recovery DVDs from Lenovo (probably $20 or $30).
