So why after having a lockup while gaming.. did I suddenly have a Homegroup icon on my desktop that wasnt there before?.. Is someone trying to hack into my pc?

*Note* I have auto updates turned off and I also cannot put the desktop icon in the trash bin....

Homegroup is Windows 7's default network system. Not a hack. It's part of Win 7. You can get rid of the icon - Google will tell you how. It takes a Registry hack.

What I dont understand is why out of the blue ..did it suddenly appear? Any chance it could be something to do with my having internet problems earlier today and the tech resetting and pinging my modem?.. Other than that I dont know why it just "suddenly appeared"....
thanks for your time.

It's a Windows thing. If the desktop configuration file gets corrupted, sometimes it gets regenerated entirely and the Homegroup icon returns.
