Win 7 and ftp why won't it work?

I am trying to download a file I stored on my web sight and it won't download properly. This is just typing in the web address and the sub directory the file is in. In XP it downloads no problem. It seems to be a Win 7 issue. I also tried to log in and ftp through IE8 and Firefox and neither one of them will let me log in to my web sight. So what is going on here. I disabled firewalls and Norton to no avail. I also tried the little bit where you add the user@ before the ftp. Firefox will prompt for the password but it won't finish logging in. It times out.

I'm running Win7 Ultimate behind an ISA 2004 firewall and FTP in I.E. 8 has worked for me. Maybe it's the way a particular FTP site is set up.

Can you download files from this JMicron site? It works for me:
ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x

Or is your only problem getting Win7 to work with your own web site?

I ended up having to go to network places and go through some BS to get it to work but still not through IE8. The following link helped. It seems that win7/IE8 has a lot of deleted FTP/File transfer capability. I could not get files to download to Win7 from the internet through my security camera system interface at all. It uses a DNS server.

I tried typing the ftp address directly into the IE address bar. That is the only way I have done it in the past in IE6 and IE7.

How do you do it from the command line?
