Win 7 and Default Printer FUBAR

I was noticing something very stupid in Win 7. When I change the default printer it does not change the printer in applications. I still have to go into each program and also change the current printer there. In XP all the printers would change to the default printer in all applications. What is the purpose of a default printer otherwise? This is especially annoying when printing postage and such that meters each print. Any way to fix this?

I haven't ever seen this except in programs that are specifically programmed to not recognize the default Windows printer. All standardized programs do it just fine.

Unfortunately you have to have the install cd to install a new print driver. So if I delete the old printer that was say a lan driver then I have to have the cd to reinstall it. If you are out of town then you are screwed.

Or just download the driver from the manufacturer's site... 😕

I've only noticed this when the default printer is changed while the application is running. I believe most programs are only set to check this when they are started.
