Win 7 always pics wireless over ethernet

It seems that Win 7 prefers using a wireless network when available over an ethernet connection. To get Win 7 to use the high speed connection you have to disable the wireless network. This seems backwards. You would think with all the other BS warnings you get that it would prompt you about which network to use.

Looks like that link was for XP. I can't seem to find the metrics in Win 7 but then again I am new to Win 7/Vista.

I finally found the check box before it will let you manually set the metrics. I hate it when Windows by default does something stupid and you have to go through all this just to make it work like it should have in the first place. What is the logic behind not connecting to a wired network first.

By default wired is a better metric, odd that yours doesnt think so. You arent hitting half duplex on the wired are you?

300 megabit wireless is better than 100megabit wired; windows uses a hash+cache algorithm so its not round-robin or instant switch unless the interface is downed.

since no wireless does gigabit - that will always force win7 to choose that as primary until failure. wifi can be 1-300 on my card so 100 megabit is not a win-win scenario.

i wish windows worked like unix/bsd.

heck i don't think windows even allows two default gateways like freebsd? or fixed interface gateways.

I think Acer screwed with the operating system when it was installed. I have wireless-g and gigabit ethernet so wired is always fastest but by default it always went wireless. I have not checked my wife's laptop but I think it is that way as well. I need to change it as well. Gigabit sure makes system backups faster.
