Win 7 64 - Multiple window explorer windows appearing

When I double click on any drive, 2 new windows explorer windows pop up for a total of 3 windows.... this is rather irritating. I have tried searching all over for any fixes to this, but everything I have tried has not worked. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it? I just want it all to keep opening in the same window that is already open.

right off the bat I could suggest 3 things -
download the Kaspersky virus tool
Its updated every minute
Its free
It doesnt install anything - its live
It removes its presence after one use

then i would try a sfc_/scannow from admin mode cmd prompt

then I would insert Win 7 DVD, go thru install screens until repair my computer shows and click it

Then the question ultimately is WHERE exactly did you get that "legitimate" Win 7 64? Theres lots of funny stuff going on out there

Where are you trying to go with this? LOL, its just if I click a link in windows explorer (drive only) it opens 2 copies.... that's it. I have a legal copy and I have no viruses. I'm pretty sure the last thing a virus would do is just open 2 copies of windows of explorer in new windows instead of opening it in the same window.

Is it just drives, or does this happen when you click on folders too?

It could possibly be your mouse or touch pad, whatever you are using. I'd check your double click sensitivity and possibly look for updated drivers.

Haven't noticed this, but other oddities with Windows Explorer. I think it might have some underlying issues needing fixed.

Just drives, folders are fine. It opens 2 windows with the drive open in addition to the original window. If I go back to drives in the new window it opens and click a drive, it doesnt open a new window, only when i first open it and click on a drive.

It was the default shortcut....not sure what it was I erased it and changed to:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

This opens My Computer as default, which is what it did before, but it no longer opens a new window when i click a drive.
