Running Win 7 64 bit on old Intel Core 2 Duo and Gigabyte EP45-UD3P.

The MB or chip died (lights on MB come on but no CMOS/BIOS @ boot, and I cannot access remotely via logmein, which confirms system is not starting) I've checked the HDD on another PC and it's working fine....but I cannot see or find my my user data in a search, I can only see all of the system and program files. The disk was not shared and was set up as NTFS.

So, the question is, can I install new MB/CPU/RAM on the original PC with the HDD at issue and retrieve my data?

Thanks for the help.

Check system function using a spare power supply first. More likely a power supply problem than motherboard or CPU. Remove all connected hardware not required for startup, with only one memory stick installed.
Use of a bootable CD operating system such as the Live Ubuntu disc would allow copying the entire drive contents over to a spare secondary HD.
Attempted booting of the old HD on a replacement motherboard: bios setting of AHCI or IDE mode should be the same as previous. Stay with an Intel chipset replacement board, not AMD, for best compatibility.
User data should be located in the "C:/Users" folder.

Thank you for the reply. I'm sorry I wasn't as clear about the issue as

I could be missing something, but here is what I have figured out so far.

1) The MB, fans and drives are getting power (lights come on, etc), but I have nothing showing up on my monitor (no boot screen, images, or information whatsoever...black as if it were not turned on). All lights look as if it's booting, but it never does and I never even get to a boot screen.
2) Monitor is confirmed good as I am using it now with a different PC to type this message.
3) If the MB and drives were working properly I would be able to access the unit remotely once booted (turned on) via Logmein, even if the monitor and video card were bad or disconnected.
4) I have my HDD plugged in to the PC I'm typing this message from and I can access all of the Program file and System files it has stored from the failed PC, but cannot find any users or other data.

Based upon this info I believe the MB or chipset failed...but I'm no expert and suppose I could be wrong, which is why I'm here begging for help!

So, assuming the MB is bad and is replaced with a modern INTEL MB/CPU, what would be my re-install procedure using a bootable CD such the Live Ubuntu you suggest? Would I boot from CD upon first startup and it would walk me through from there?

Thank you again, your input is genuinely appreciated.

If your
Code:
C:\Users\
directory is gone, it's unlikely to get it back. You should be able to see it on another similar Windows machine on which you have Admin privileges, and be able to take ownership of your files.
