I just installed Win 7 64-bit. On the system properties screen for installed memory it says 4.00 GB installed (3.25 GB usable). Why would it say this on a 64 bit OS?

What motherboard, if you don't mind my asking?

Do you have a lower end machine that uses shared memory for its system/gpu?

Mine does the same thing. I think it is because it shares memory with the GPU, or the memory remapping thing, which I don't think my system had the last time I checked. And no, I don't have a low end system- Q9300, 4gb DDR2800, 4850 512mb, etc.

Check in the BIOS for memory remap/remapping option and make sure its set to enabled.

Run MSConfig

Under boot options -> advanced settings -> Maximum Memory

Clear any check mark if present, click apply then restart the system.

Do you have any thing that does not work because of this tragically low memory?

There is no checkmark in that section in MSconfig.

There is nothing that doesn't work so far. I can live with it I'm sure, it's just strange how it's acting like it's a 32-bit OS or something, because that's the same amount of memory that Win XP told me was usable when I had that.

I have an x64 system with onboard graphic. The graphic claims t take 768MB of shared RAM. It probably can be reduced but since it does not bother me I did not spend the time researching it.

Sorry the full name of the board is DP43TF.

This board doesn't even have onboard graphics. I have VT technology and EFI boot enabled in the BIOS, but I would not think that they would cause this.

I have same OS with 4 Gb memory and it shows 3.75 useable. I have onboard video and assumed that is why it was giving that number. I will reboot here in a bit and see how many meg is alloted to that gpu in the bios.

Wait: OP says that Windows does see all of the 4 GB. His system properties screen says 4GB installed. It if it was a memory remap issue, wouldn't Windows report less than 4 GB installed, regardless of how much of it was "usable"?

Using Vista64 and 7-64 retail on my 3 PCs.
Installed mem 4GB Usable 3GB on SLI and Crossfire PCs
Installed mem 4GB Usable 3.25 usable old 88gtx 768 mem.

MSConfig advance will not hold a change on 7 or Vista.
BIOS memory remap/remapping option has no effect and is enabled.
When vista came out I tried to correct 3gig off mem.

Question if ran Crossfire 3 or 4gpu SLI would you loose more mem.
