Hi there,

Well I tried to startup my pc and when widows 2k started up I got this message:
Windows2000 could not sart because the following is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

If tells me to try to repair, but that didn't work. I'm wodering what I need to do to fix this error?

Thank you for your help

That message is telling you your registry has become corrupt. If you made a recent (registry) backup, then you may have not lost much at all. If you didn't, well.... Either way, if Safe Mode results in the same lock-up, there is a way to recover something from your Windows 2000 install, and that is by booting off the 2K CD, and selecting the "Repair" option when prompted. Enter the Recovery Console. Copy \WINNT\REPAIR\SYSTEM over \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. You MAY need to also copy \WINNT\REPAIR\SOFTWARE over \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE, but try overwriting SYSTEM with the backed-up one first (I forgot whether this last step can actually solve a lock-up such as this). Reboot, and done---hopefully. Good luck.
