win 2k sluggish in shutting down

Of lately, win 2k has become way too slugish in shutting down or restarting. It used to take aboout 10-20 seconds before, now it takes upto 5 minutes! Is there any remedy to it short of reinstalling?
In the last few days I 1) moved the win2k partition to make space for linux
2) installed a usb zip drive..
can any of this be causing the problem?
